As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints I am sometimes asked about the Mountain Meadows Massacre, where a group of “Saints” murdered emigrants traveling to California and attempted to lay the blame on neighboring Indians. It was a terrible atrocity that never should have happened. If only the local leaders had exercised patience. . . there could be many if onlys.

I am delighted the Church has finally decided to put out a relatively complete article in our magazine called the Ensign about this very subject.
