My daughter Hazel is five years old. We were having a discussion about the Spirit (aka Holy Ghost) after singing the Hymn the Spirit of God. She often likes to get involved in what I am doing when preparing the music for Relief Society. So, we put together a list of things that one can do to gain the Spirit for guidance. This entire list is Hazel’s. I only gave her one hint, the rest she came up with completely on her own.

 Keep the commandments of God.

 Love one another.

 Try to be righteous people.

 Serving one another.

 Love people.

Say I love you, do good things, and say good words.

Scripture reading (that’s my one hint).

 Prayers.

 Sing hymns.

Visit the Temple (which we did when my sister got married).

 Go to Church.

 Reading books.

 Being polite and asking nicely.

 Decorating our house.

 Dancing to beautiful music.

cleaning up, clean sweeping our kitchen.

After all this I asked her, “Are we feeling the Spirit right now?” She said, “Yes”. I then asked, “How does it make you feel?” Her smiling response was, “Happy and glad.”

    Ruth,

Those are some great observations on the spirit. I think it would be impossible not to have or feel the spirit if a person were to follow those steps. While it is a commitment, in the end, its worth it!
